               Leo Club Background and History

Leo Clubs for young people are part of the Lions Clubs, who are widely known around the world for their long-standing dedication to community service. Fifty years ago, Jim Graver, who was the coach of the baseball team at Abington High School, Pennsylvania, USA and also an active Lions member wanted to start a service club for high school students. Graver discussed his ideas with the rest of the Glenside Lions Club and they seemed to agree that starting a Lions group for youth was a good idea. Finally in 1957, a charter was presented by the Glenside Lions to the Abington High School Leo Club, the first Leo Club in the world. Today, there are thousands of Leo Clubs, like ours, in over 130 different countries, united with a similar goal which is, to improve and strengthen both the local and international communities.

The name LEO Club was derived from an acronym which is also the Leo Club motto.
